FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you have a question about the site and the academic exchanges between France and the United States? Check out our frequently asked questions below.

The study area options are intentionally left as general as possible, but please let us know if you think we should add one by sending an email to faax@state.gov. In the meantime, we suggest you try to choose areas similar to yours (for example, if you are an osteopathy school, choose “medical studies” and “sport”).

Absolutely! The site will allow you to create an entry for each different exchange program you would like to set up.

We encourage you to be proactive in your FAAX search. Reach out to schools instead of waiting for them to reach out to you. New schools are joining FAAX every day, so keep an eye out for new entries of interest to you.

Sometimes schools do not think to erase their entry once they have found a partner. For this reason, we automatically erase all entries one year after they have been created. In the meantime, we encourage you to keep looking, as there is a steady stream of new FAAX members and offers.
Also, consider searching in regions where demand is not as high (i.e. outside of areas like Paris and New York) and expanding your search to groups whose profile may be a little different from yours. Why not set up a language exchange between dental students in Missouri and theater students in Nantes?

Some exchange programs can take a little time to set up, so it fine to get an early start. Please list your desired start date clearly so that potential partner schools know what academic year you have in mind.

No problem. You will receive an automatic email one month before your entry expires (11 months after creation of your entry) asking you if you would like to renew. If so, please be sure to modify any criteria that may be out-of-date.

On our photo page! You can post up to five images to show to others what came of your exchange program (note: for French students under 18, please be sure you have requested the right to post their image).
We love to hear about success stories, so if you are happy with your FAAX experience, please feel free to send us an email with more information here: faax@state.gov.

Of course. Please remember that the role of FAAX is simply to put schools in contact, but if you feel that there is something that could be clearer or more efficient on the site, do let us know: faax@state.gov

Not necessarily. Our requirement is that you be a legal adult who is a member of a school (teacher, principal, college counselor) and looking to set up an exchange for a group of students (classes, sports teams, university student clubs, etc).

No. You can contact schools through our site, which will keep your email address secret until you choose to communicate it directly to the partner school.

For all technical questions or anomalies, please contact: faax@state.gov
